Professional Summary

Matthew Mowbrey was born and raised throughout many small communities in Alberta. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce Degree in International Business at Grant MacEwan University. Increasingly interested in Alberta’s business challenges, he soon followed it with both a Law Degree and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta. Matthew completed his articles with Gerig Hamilton Neeland in 2015 in Red Deer, where he resided and focused his practice within the Central Alberta community.   In 2024, Matthew began splitting his time between British Columbia and Alberta, and as a result has evolved to offering more remote services, including taxing other legal accounts and mediation services.

Matthew has successfully represented clients at both the Provincial Court and Court of King’s Bench, on matters involving debt collection, builder’s liens, shareholder disputes, condominium disagreements, and family law. Matthew has a passion for small and medium sized businesses, corporate governance, and social entrepreneurship.   He has been on the executive team of several enterprises including those involved with agricultural custom manufacturing, hospitality, strategic consulting, immigration consulting, financial services, and health supplement companies. Matthew’s background in business development assists in providing both practical and legal strategic planning for his commercial clients. Matthew has advised clients on franchise agreements and disclosure, commercial leases, share and asset purchase agreements, unanimous shareholders agreements, and other corporate documents.  In 2025, he started a small non-profit educating and mentoring youth engagement in starting their own business.

Matthew Mowbrey has been a sessional instructor with Red Deer Polytechnic and Vancouver Island University, teaching a variety of courses. He is an active volunteer with Rotary, Hospice, and LGBTQ2+ non-profits. He is a proud proponent in the fight against gender-based violence sponsoring events such as Walk a Mile in Their Shoes and the Red Dress Project.
